Emerson College, May 2012
scenic designer: Holly Sverdrup
charge scenic artist: Christopher Kavanah
lighting designers: Grayson Breen and Zachary Cosenza
The EVVY Awards are a live, multi-camera student awards show modeled after the Oscars and held at Emerson's historic Cutler Majestic Theatre. Under the supervision of Kevin Bright, best known as the executive producer of Friends, students from all of Emerson's majors get the opportunity to work in a professional environment and gain valuable hands-on experience. The main challenge of working on the EVVY Awards is that that the entire production process occurs in a week and a half. Over the course of ten days, this massive show is built, painted, loaded in, teched, and struck. As a result, time management and organization are absolutely essential in order to complete the show on time, especially due to its scale. Much of the assistant charge artist's job includes supporting the charge artist when necessary and delegating appropriate tasks to various members of the general theatre crew. Although the techniques involved in the show were fairly simple (spraying, scumbling, lining, glossing), they were still challenging due to the tight timeframe and size of the show.
